Facts and key data
BP Europa SE in a nutshell

  • Project duration: two years

  • Number of employees: approx. 9050

  • Locations: Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Switzerland

Initial situation
at the start of the project

BP Europa SE has always handled the tax suspension procedure manually. The company initially used ISP software to track quantity movements and calculate energy tax before switching to SAP IS-OIL in 2014. In 2009, the company decided to switch from the traditional paper process to the electronic settlement system (EMCS). However, this required the integration of external systems. And this is where the smart solutions from VTA Software & Service GmbH came into play.

  • Manual procedures led to increased workload

  • Paper-based systems caused errors during data transfer

  • No efficient communication with the customs application

  • Delays due to tedious communication with authorities

Result
and current situation

BP Europa SE's decision to use VTA's software solutions was largely based on the existing partnership for successful dispatch processing in the refineries. Given the need to automate the tax suspension process and seamlessly transfer data via interfaces, VTA seemed the ideal choice. With the introduction of the EMCS solution in the refineries, tax warehouses and the tax department, the automation process has improved significantly. This improvement has been further driven by the implementation of additional systems, including those for handling the greenhouse gas reduction quota and BEHG (currently CEEMAS). VTA systems have enabled BP Europa SE to benefit not only from existing interfaces and download functions for data analysis, but also from additional interfaces from other upstream systems, for example to avoid input errors.

  • Automation of the tax suspension procedure

  • Consistent and centralized data management

  • Customized and expandable systems

  • Interfaces and download functions for data evaluation

  • Immediate and solution-oriented support

"Our experience with VTA was consistently positive. The competent and goal-oriented contact persons were always at our side and proved to be real partners. Particularly noteworthy is the immediate and solution-oriented support we received whenever a problem arose. Even in critical situations, such as emergency procedures, VTA proactively took over communication with the customs administration, which was a huge relief for us."
